Ranger’s Refuge at Gallastar is a non-profit animal sanctuary, home to over 200 rescued animals, located in Esmont, Virginia.
Ron and Lorelei Pulliam are the proprietors of Gallastar Equine Center and Ranger's Refuge at Gallastar. We also rely on dedicated volunteers- if you'd like to join us, we'd love to hear from you!
Since 1994, Gallastar and Ranger's Refuge have been a center for therapeutic horseback riding and animal rescue that has specialized in serving young people with cognitive and emotional difficulties.
Ranger's Refuge is the animal sanctuary arm of Gallastar Equine Center, Inc. With a main focus on pigs, it is currently home to almost 200 animals. We aim to give each and every one of them forever homes, and to build a future where no animal is ever brought into the world to be unwanted or exploited.
The Gallastar Open House took place on October 19th, from 10am to 3pm at our sanctuary, at 3309 Irish Road, Esmont VA. The event featured a Used Tack Sale, a Silent Auction, Tours of the Sanctuary, Vegan Food, & Visits with the Animals!
The Open House was a great success! We hosted nearly 100 visitors, coming from as close as just down the block to Richmond & Alexandria. WIth their support, we raised nearly $2,000 to go towards Peanut the pig's veterinary bills & our winter hay drive. Thank you all so much! We can't wait for next year.
No problem! View our past events page to see photos of our first Gallastar Open House.
Pearl & her mom,Seen, a 16 year old Chincoteague pony, were living on a farm with Pearl's dad, Yellow Jacket, who is half Mustang and half Chincoteague pony.
Because their former owners needed to sell their farm & move, they offered all 3 horses up "free to a good home."
The whole family was at risk for ending up in the slaughter line.
Fortunately, the whole family was rescued by Ranger's Refuge just in time.
Yellow Jacket was able to be rescued first, early in the summer of 2019. After fundraising for a run-in shed & organizing transport, Pearl & her mother quickly followed him to sanctuary by August. Now the entire family is reunited in their forever home.
Our Sanctuary staff is working hard to help the family adjust to their new life- Yellow Jacket has been gelded & is waiting recovery to join Pearl & Seen in their own, private pasture.
The whole family is in need of Sponsors, to help with their continued success & happiness at Ranger's Refuge. Sponsoring an individual horse at Ranger's Refuge is a $50 commitment per month. Will you make the commitment today to sponsor their monthly feed, shelter, & veterinary costs?
This is a story of a friend, Ranger the pig, who found his way to us Easter of 1990 and fulfilled a promise from long ago and changed our lives. Watch this video to learn about the origins of Ranger's Refuge and the start to our sanctuary for all living beings.
